For Mother’s Day, we went down to Columbia, SC to visit and go to lunch with my mother-in-law who was there visiting my brother-in-law.
It’s a short day trip for us from Charlotte, so we only had one meal there. But, since it was so delicious, I thought I would share with you my experience.
After a little discussion, we decided on California Dreaming. We go there a lot when we get together and I knew there was probably something I could get there off the menu that was gluten free. I did use my handy “Find Me Gluten Free” app to check and it was on the list, but I also found some scathingly bad reviews online (in regards to gluten free options). Those reviews were from 2006, so I hoped they had evolved and just went with it.
I love the California Dreaming location in Columbia. It’s inside the old Union Station train depot (built in the 1900s) that has been restored and has housed CD since 1984. So beautiful!
Once we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see a gluten free menu poking out of the menu basket, so I quickly asked for it. It had a lot of options, but let’s be real… I knew what I was getting before we ever got there — the California Dreaming salad.
The only problem I had (and it wasn’t even really that big of a deal) was when I ordered. I told our server that I wanted the gluten free version of the California Dreaming salad. To which she promptly replied, “Well, it’s the same salad.” *gasp* Umm… no… it’s not. My version better not come with that honkin’ huge croissant! I don’t have that kind of will power. 😉
Luckily, it didn’t and it was truly delicious!
