Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am a coat-aholic. Hubby always says that I never saw a coat I didn’t like. I used to have so many coats and jackets that I could fill up two coat closets. Just sayin’… I had a problem.
So, I decided during a coat drive in January that someone could be using those coats. It’s been unusually cold here, and so the sorting began…
I am pleased to say that my coats now comfortably fit in only one of our coat closets. That left the closet under the stairs empty except for the random stuff that had made its way onto the floor. Here’s the before:
I wanted to create a closet that made our travel items easier to get to, but it also left me room for other stuff, too. That’s when I decided to also organize some of our more random entertaining items that never seemed to have a place anywhere else in the house like my set of antique silverware that I’m too afraid to let anyone use…
I got a couple of these plastic shelves from Lowe’s. I know, I know… I should have just built more shelves directly onto the wall in the closet and maybe someday, I will. I just have such a mental block when it comes to making changes to my house that I can’t take with me. It’s probably because we moved so much when I was a kid. I always want stuff to be portable.
Here is the organization of the travel items:
And, here is the organization of the entertaining side:
On the door, I’ve always had my favorite organization item… ever! It’s an over the door organizer for toilet paper and paper towels. If you buy these in bulk, this thing is amazing. I got mine at Improvements years ago and they don’t carry it anymore, but if you see one of these floating around eBay, I would highly recommend picking one up!
And, the before and after:
What a difference a little organization can make! I used to have all our travel items all over the bathroom and in plastic (non see through) bins which made it a pain to pack for trips. I love having everything visible and accessible. And, the entertaining items… well, I might actually use this stuff if I can find it.
My next step is to find a light for this closet. There isn’t an overhead light and the on-the-wall puck light I’ve been using isn’t cutting it anymore. Anyone have any ideas for a wireless light?
