Are you afraid of color? When you look around your home is it a lot of white?
It can be overwhelming to add color to your room, especially if you are just starting out. However, if you focus on these three A’s, you can add color without the commitment!
This goes without saying and… please… pick art that you really love – not just for the color. You’re going to have to look at it every day! Try to fill the space. If you have a large wall, fill it with a larger piece of art or use smaller pieces grouped together to create a gallery wall. It will add the color punch without painting the wall.
Think a great vase… or a throw pillow. Like with the art, try to find pieces that are larger in scale. If you try to fill a space with a lot of small pieces, it can start to look like clutter.
This category can be anything from a painted accent wall, brightly colored lighting or a small piece of furniture. I think of home décor accents as large statement pieces in a room – as opposed to accessories, which are smaller. Area rugs will fall into this category as well.
Keeping these three things in mind when shopping will help you not to get overwhelmed and allow you to shop with a purpose. Be prepared before going, make a list (and know which color you want to look for), and have fun! If what you’ve chosen doesn’t work in the room the way you had hoped, you can always return it!
Once you’ve mastered adding color inside, you can use those same rules and take it outside!
