I am so ready for spring!! Last week, we were a foot deep in snow and now today, it is a gorgeous, sunny 60 degrees!
So, to bring a little spring into my life, I started this weekend by creating a vintage, spring inspired centerpiece for our dining table. It’s been empty since I removed all the Christmas decorations and it was starting to look a little bare!
To start, I had this old unfinished box that I probably made a gift basket in years ago. It’s been collecting dust in the top of our closet, so I decided it was time to put it to some good use.
After cleaning up the box, I gave it a light sanding and a coat of Minwax stain in the color 233 English Chestnut. I’ve really been loving this color stain recently!
I found a graphic that I loved on The Graphics Fairy’s website. Love that site for vintage looking graphics! Highly recommend! And using the wax paper transfer method from Unexpected Elegance, I transferred my selected graphic to the box. With this method, you have to wet down your surface when transferring the ink to make it darker. I almost wish that I had gotten the surface a little wetter so that the grapes and the bottom lettering would have stood out more, but I’m just going to say that gives it a vintage, well worn flair!
I picked up some silk hydrangeas from Hobby Lobby (floral bushes and stems are 50% off this week!) and some floral foam from Wal-Mart. I added them to the box and was done!
I really like it. Simple and just the right size!
