I really love the storage in our kitchen. We are truly lucky to be blessed with a lot of cabinets.
The downside to this is it lends itself to easily getting really unorganized and out of control. We had one like this. It was the last cabinet in our longest bank of cabinets. It sort of became a cabinet where all the random stuff went and nothing seemed to go together. If you couldn’t find something in the kitchen, it was probably hiding somewhere in that cabinet.
Here’s what it looked like when I started (a hot mess).
Our second problem was the pantry. It is a reach in closet style pantry that is (in my opinion) too deep. So, when I lined up our baking supplies against the back wall and after everything else was loaded into the pantry, the baking stuff became really hard to get to. Thus, I needed somewhere else to store our baking supplies!
To start the new year, I’ve started going through our house and organizing cabinets, drawers, and closets. This cabinet was bugging me so much that I decided to start in the kitchen (get the biggest job out of the way!).
I started with what I already had. I had some JÄMKA canisters from IKEA ($5.99 for a set of a small and a large) that I already had some of our flours in. I also had a set of the Oxo Good Grips® Food Storage Pop Containers which I love! I only had to run to IKEA and get one more set of canisters and to Homegoods for a couple more Oxo canisters and I was ready to start organizing!
Here’s the after. I decided to move our Kitchenaid mixer to this corner of the kitchen to really make it a baking area. We have a lot more open countertop space at this end of the kitchen which will definitely help!
I used my handy label maker and some clear tape to label all the canisters, and I used some small command hooks to hang our measuring cups right inside the door for easy access! Love it!
I can already tell after using it for a week or so that it’s really going to work out better for us. Our stuff is so much easier to get to!! It might even make me a better baker! Nah… 🙂
