Happy September!! Wow, the summer has really flown by! Now that it’s getting into fall and the summer craziness has died down, I am going to try to get back onto a regular posting schedule with the blog. Fingers crossed!
Have you ever been in that place with your decorating when you have so many projects started and you don’t have anything to show for it? Yeah… that’s me. I wanted to post something last week about what I was working on, but it would have looked something like this:
“Here’s a pile of junk that I cleaned out of this room. Oh look! Here’s another pile of junk and a mess I made starting another project in the living room. And lastly, here’s the mess I made moving furniture around in the guest room and the master bedroom.”
Yeah…. not so exciting…
Speaking of the guest room, I did want to share with you one thing that I’m working on. We’ve had that bedroom basically set up the same since we moved in — with the bed sitting mainly in front of the window. I like to keep the blinds open to let as much light in as possible and the morning sun streams into that room beautifully. I think you might know where I’m going with this…
I went into that room recently to clean and I noticed that the sun had basically faded the bedding on that bed until it was practically white in places. If you remember from my makeup room organization post, you can refer to that to get a hint at what it looked like before (there’s a smidge of bedding showing in the last picture).
So, I went on the hunt for new bedding for that room. There were some definite stipulations:
- I didn’t want to spend a ton of money.
- I wanted to use as much of the old bedding as possible.
- I didn’t want to have to paint the walls or have to get rid of a bunch of the existing accessories and art in the room.
With that in mind, I searched everywhere for something that matched. The base of the bedding was cream colored sheets and blanket, so that would be pretty easy to match. The trouble came in with matching the other bedding and the walls. I wanted to keep the deep pink duvet cover and euro shams that I had from the Pottery Barn (bought at the outlet years ago) and don’t forget the green striped walls.
Then, I ran across this pillow from Target…. on sale! It was kismet. It was to be mine.
So, I decided to do a mix of solid bedding with this pillow as the jumping off point. I had the pink color covered with the Pottery Barn bedding and the cream with the blanket already on the bed. It’s hard to tell, but the back of the pillow is a light turquoise color (also already featured predominately in the accessories already in the room — like I said, this pillow was perfect). So, I decided to pick up a body pillow and cover (on clearance!) from Target in their back to school stuff.
Now, I only needed to represent the taupe color from the background of the pillow. I had searched everywhere for this…. and found nothing! Who knew this color was going to be so hard to match!? Then I remembered that I had a 20% off (for my birthday) at Stein Mart, so I went by to see what they had. I spotted this set from across the room and knew it would match perfectly!
And, here are all the components together on the bed…. Now, onto the rest of the room! 🙂
