A few years ago, we refreshed our family room and kitchen and I shared the results of that in this post. It worked well for a while, but every time we had company over, it became glaringly obvious that we didn’t have enough seating for everyone. One day, I was perusing Pinterest and I got sucked into a post from Rooms to Go showing the biggest sectional in the world. (I’m sure of it now. The delivery guys called it “the Cadillac of sofas” because of its size.) After mentioning it to Mark, we decided to go for it!
The only problem? The sofa I loved from the post was blue. I haven’t used blue in my house since my first apartment in college. Needless to say, it’s not my favorite color. But, the more I looked at it, the more I loved it. It was blue with yellow chevron pillows. Blue… yellow… I began to see a whole French provincial theme. Sunflowers, lavender. Now, that’s décor I can get behind.
We took the plunge during their 4th of July sale and anxiously awaited the delivery date at the end of the month. Between that time, I took the opportunity to start getting rid of the pink and green accessories and replace them with blue and yellow.
Here’s a tip: We have family coming to visit, so I didn’t have the time to wait for the sofa to arrive before I started re-accessorizing the room. So, I took a bunch of blue and yellow paint swatches over to Rooms to Go and matched the sofa and pillows. That way, I could carry those paint swatches around in my purse while I was out on the hunt for new accessories – pillows, candles, etc. – and I didn’t have to wait to actually have the sofa in my possession. It also gave me the opportunity to purchase a quart of paint in each color to go ahead and start repainting some of our existing items (and the pantry door) to get them ready for the new look.
So, here’s a look at the finished room. I’ll be sharing the updated mantel in another post.
Does anyone else match their products to their decor? Oh, only me? Ok…. let’s move on.
I actually love how it turned out and am starting to have a new found love for blue! One of the sectional pieces arrived broken, so we had to wait for its replacement (which came a few weeks ago) to be able to fully use the entire sofa. But, I’ve already laid claim to the chaise lounge!
