Let’s Talk Paint!

I know a lot of people who have a hard time choosing a paint color.  I don’t always take my own advice (almost never!), but I believe the wall color should be neutral. That way you can update your decor with smaller, less expensive pieces when you want to make a change.  I doubt anyone wants to repaint a room every time they get the itch to redecorate.  I’m learning that the hard way right now… think red bedroom walls, ugh. Kilz, lots of Kilz.

Here are some of my favorite paint colors… I’d love to see pictures if you’ve used any of these in your home!

We have Sherwin Williams Crewel Tan throughout the majority of our home (living room, dining room, hallways, etc.), Empire Gold in our family room, kitchen and master bath, and Roycroft Suede in our powder room.  I love the way the three colors transition through the house.  And, I’m pondering painting an accent wall in our master bedroom Palladin Blue. Just waiting for a strike of motivation…

Here are the colors in our living room and kitchen:

Benjamin Moore’s Glass Slipper has been popular ever since it appeared in this bedroom in House Beautiful.

And here’s another beautifully soothing bedroom using Glass Slipper.

I love how Emily @ A Well Dressed Home used Behr Ashes in this living room.

In keeping with the neutrals theme, I am loving the new HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams palettes, especially the Neutral Nuance. Lots of great colors!

I am also a huge fan of Candice Olson.  Here’s her go-to Benjamin Moore Colors. Love them!

What are your favorite paint colors? Are you a neutral lover? Or do you go more bold with your walls?

WE just bought our first home earlier this year and I have been looking at a million paint colors ever since! It’s so hard to decide! But i do agree with you, I like neutral colors on the walls and pops of colors in my furniture. I think I may have finally gotten an idea of an accent wall color for the living room…but that’s the only wall thus far! So I may only have one painted wall in my home for a while!!! Lol. Visiting from SITS. Happy SITS Day!!!

Choosing paint colors is hard but, I guess we shouldn’t be scared to take the plunge. The worst thing that could happen is you’d have to paint over it! (although that is definitely a big job) Congrats on your first home!! :)

Years ago I painted our entire house a warm white. I forget the color name but I loved it. Then Trading Spaces was popular and I started redoing with color. No regrets but the colors I’ve used are not intense. Thanks for the different photos. My daughter needs to paint but can’t pick a color even though she has several rectangles on her wall to pick from. Enjoy your SITS Day.

I like to go mostly neutral with a few pops of color. Like my girls’ bedroom that I painted one wall purple and one of the entry walls purple but the rest is cream. It looks great and painting one full wall and one partial wall later is not a big project when my girls don’t want a purple room anymore.

I love those colors. I currently have a light blue in my bathroom, a sage green in the living room and hallway and then blue and yellow stripes in the kids’ room. The stripes were an idea I had before my oldest was born and they love it. I think it works well for a kids’ room.

What a cool and calming color palette. i must admit when I first saw it simply and color blocks I didn’t like them but then seeing them in rooms and with life they are beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.

These colors are so soothing and lovely! I discovered Palladin Blue when my sister in law chose it for her parent’s kitchen. Since then I’ve used it in two different houses! Happy SITS Day!

What a great post, thanks for the color tips. Makes perfect sense to keep walls neutral and use accents to pop color throughout.
Btw, I have been here before, I don’t remember when but I totally recognized your cute signature :)
    Happy belated SITS day!
