Are you travelling to see friends and family this holiday season? Or are you going somewhere exotic to get away from it all?
Either way, I hope you all are having an amazing holiday season and enjoying this time with the people you love!!
The biggest problem with this time of year is the stress. We all feel it, and some know how to handle it better than others. I won’t tell you which category I fall into. 😉
If you are travelling this season, a good packing list can be the difference between being packed early and ready to go and running around at midnight throwing things into a suitcase. So today, I thought I would share with you my packing lists and make them available for you to download!
On my computer, I have three core packing lists. There is one packing list for each different scenarios. Then when we are planning a trip, I create a packing list based on our destination.
I always start with my Pre-Travel Checklist, so I have included it for you here as well!
If we are going on a weekend trip, I have a base list of just must haves that would get us by for the weekend. This list is bare bones — meaning we would be at a family members house or somewhere that we could run to Walgreens or Target if I really needed something I didn’t bring. If we are going on a long trip and I am packing light, I have a list of just necessities. If it’s a trip that I can bring a little more, I have a list of “nice to haves” that I would add to my necessities list to build a more inclusive list.
Then, based on the type of vacation we are going on, I will add other pieces to the list like the Beach Items or Cruise List Items. If we are travelling by air, I will make sure I print out my packing list for my carry on, too!

To make my life even easier, I have my weekend trip toiletry bag and long trip necessitates bag packed. I have a second bag for the “nice to haves” so that, if I have the room, I can throw that bag in as well. I also already have my beach items, cruise items, and carry on items packed in pouches. Then, I just need to grab the bags from my travel stash and head off! So easy!
Yes, I am that nerdy traveler that creates a trip binder. You might laugh, but it keeps me really organized and alleviates a lot of travel headaches. I print out all my packing lists, confirmations, maps, etc. that I think I might need on the trip and add them to my binder. I use the thinnest binder I can get — usually a presentation binder with refillable pages like this one from Staples. This way it doesn’t take up too much room in my carry on.
Also, I do take my packing lists with me on the trip so that I can make sure I return home with everything I brought. It helps me to not lose anything! 🙂
Your definitions of “must haves” and “nice to haves” may be different than mine. So, feel free to use these lists to make your own lists to build from!
I hope these packing lists help you with your holiday travels!! Let me know if you find these useful!
