Full disclosure — this is not my idea. I got this from multiple pins on Pinterest. However, I needed a lot of bins for my new craft room and didn’t want to spend a ton of money. This seemed like a perfect way to get some galvanized tin looking bins from the Dollar Tree!
For this project, you are going to need the following supplies:
- Locker bins from the Dollar Tree
- Gray primer spray paint (I used automobile primer because like another blog post stated it was matte and dried quickly)
- Chalkboard paint
- Silver craft paint
- Paint brushes
First off, I started with coating all of the bins inside and out with the gray primer. I have 12 bins, so I needed three cans of primer spray paint to get a couple of coats of paint on each bin.
The next step is to use a dry brush (I used a sponge brush) and lightly brush on the chalkboard paint wiping off the paint with each coat.
Next, I did the same process with silver craft paint using the same technique. I did, however, use less of the silver paint than the chalkboard.
The finished product is a little more “distressed” than I had intended. There is an art to dry brushing that I haven’t quite mastered, but they are much better than the orange bins I started with!
Now that both of these projects are done, I can finally do a couple of finishing touches and share the finished product with you. I can’t wait to finally get this room finished!
