After putting in our new IKEA Billy wall unit, we lost the space for an end table at one end of our sofa. So, I needed to find a way to add more table space for drinks and such in our living room. Here’s what I came up with — a quick, easy afternoon DIY project!
First, I went to Lowe’s and bought two pieces of 1″ x 8″ x 6′ boards. For the table, I needed 1 piece 6′ long and two pieces 29″ long. After getting the pieces home, I only had to make two cuts for the 2 29″ pieces since the one board was already 6′ long. If I had thought, I would have had Lowe’s cut it, but it was late and I just forgot.
After cutting, I sanded all the pieces down and put a coat of my favorite stain 233 English Chestnut from Minwax.
Once that was dry, it was on to poly.
I let that dry for a few hours before putting the actual table together. I used four L brackets and some 3/4″ wood screws (two brackets for each leg).
Here’s the finished product before I put it behind the sofa. It’s not perfect, but it was easy, cheap, and will get the job done without being seen.
And here it is behind the sofa…
