The decluttering has begun!
For some reason, I started decluttering with our bedroom closet. That was for sure a bad idea. Here’s the pile of items to go to Goodwill that I’ve got so far — and I’m not even done. Ugh.
I always thought that I was pretty good about keeping my clothes cleared out, but apparently (as my favorite commercial says) “I was living in a fool’s paradise!” I couldn’t believe some of the stuff I found in there. I mean, come on, look at these boots. The 90s called… They want their boots back. Groove is in the heart after all. 🙂
So, I decided I needed to take a break and move on to a more doable project — like the kitchen. More specifically… the cups. I’m terrible about bringing every plastic cup someone gives me home with me. I just feel terrible throwing them away. I mean, I have the cups we got drinks in at Bank of America stadium and we are most decidedly not Panthers fans.
Here’s the before shot. Not terrible, but definitely too many cups and not enough space for anything else.
I took every cup out of the cabinet and started with a blank slate. That made it so much easier to decide what to keep and what to give away or throw away. Look at the top… There’s those Panthers cups.
It was surprising easy to get rid of some things and surprisingly hard to get rid of others.
See those Disney cups on the third shelf all the way to the left? Yeah, we searched every McDonald’s in a three state radius to get the whole collection of those cups. There’s no way I’m getting rid of them… ever.
I only ended up keeping two plastic cups and only because I had a sentimental attachment to them. One was from high school and the other was my favorite cup (as a kid) that I got a Lake Winnepesaukah. Mark’s response “where the heck is that?” Umm, only the best place in the whole world. I don’t dare go back as an adult. It might not be as magical as I remember.
Here’s the after. I’ve made quite a bit of extra space and the cups we use most frequently are on the bottom shelf.
*sigh* One job down, twenty more to go. I’m hoping that I can get to a point soon that I can start working on my new craft room. I picked up some “oops” paint at Lowe’s this week for only $9. Score!
But before that, I need to move on to our tupperware cabinet. So many containers… not enough lids! Stay tuned!
