After weeks of sorting through craft supplies, fabric, paper, and old school stuff, I can finally say with pride that my craft room (closet) is clean and ready for use!! Wahoo!
Here’s the before — too much stuff and not enough storage!
My process for a project like this always starts the same… measure the room and create a scale drawing (Thank you, Interior Design school). I find it much easier moving furniture on paper than in real life — especially since I tend to move things around a lot while deciding how to best place the furniture! 🙂
It also helps me determine what I need to buy and what I can use from the previous room. I ended up only purchasing 5 bookcases from Wal-Mart (about $140 total) and a desktop and small chair from IKEA ($50 total). Everything else was a re-use from the previous setup.
After the design was decided upon and all items purchased, it’s time for the clean out and organizing.
It always gets worse before it gets better!
I think I might have a problem with magazine hoarding….
First step is to paint the room. Then, I painted the two base kitchen cabinets that I’ve been using as a desk base.
Next, it’s time to put together all…. those…. bookcase…. ugh.
Finally, it’s time to put back the stuff!! That’s my favorite part!
I got the idea for the wrapping paper organizers (trash bag holders from IKEA) from Pinterest, and I use a wall mounted spice rack to hold all of my paints.
