Styling bookcases so they look their best is an art form. Some people are naturals and are just great at it. Some people (like me) have to work a little harder at it.
I’m always looking for new tips and trick on the web, and I’ve come across some great resources for ideas. One of those is an article titled “10 Tips for Stylish Bookcases” from Better Homes & Gardens. When I came across the picture below, it inspired me to use smaller groupings of books on my shelves and hold them back with bookends.
So, I went in search of said bookends. Have you priced them lately? They are kinda pricey.
Speaking of bookends — aren’t these (from Zgallerie) adorable!!
After not being able to find any I really loved at Homegoods (my go-to store for home accessories), I tried to find something I already had lying around the house to use. That’s when I started looking at the shelf brackets I had in a whole new light.
The first step was to sand them down. Then, I painted them with my new favorite spray paint color — metallic caramel latte. Love it!
That’s it! The books I’m using stand up pretty well on their own, so the brackets are holding them without any added support. If your books are a little flimsier, I would suggest adding a more sturdy base to the brackets like a larger piece of molding.
What unexpected items have you used on your shelves? Any great resources for styling bookcases? I’d love to hear about them!!
