A long, long time ago, when we first got out of college, we purchased an unfinished TV armoire. It was ages ago. Do you remember when Lowe’s sold unfinished, put-it-together-yourself furniture? Yeah, that long ago.
It’s been a surprisingly pretty sturdy piece of furniture. It’s held up through moves and pulling those massive TVs in and out of it. It was little scratched up, but still holding together great. However, when our TVs started getting flatter and wider, it was no longer usable as a TV cabinet. So, I’ve been using it as closed storage — after all, it’s got drawers and doors. Perfect places to hide things in!
Lately, I’ve been trying to make better use of the items that we have, so we moved the armoire into our craft room turned guest room. The main reason for the move was so that I would have more room in that room to store stuff — mostly gift wrap — into one convenient place. The only problem was it used to be in another guest room (also my make up room) was white and had pink toile fabric on it. That wouldn’t work in the new space.
So, off to the paint store we went!
I love the way it turned out. We painted it black and replaced the hardware and hinges. Then, we removed the pink toile and added black toile (an old Waverly shower curtain I cut up) and covered the fabric with chicken wire. When we originally bought the armoire, it had wooden panel doors. However, the first time I painted it, I replaced the wooden panels with gathered fabric panels — much more my style.
I love the extra addition of the chicken wire. It gives it that extra French Country umph that I love!!
I love quick, easy furniture makeovers that make a world of difference to how much you love your stuff! And I do love this piece again!
